How do you know if you child has Severs disease?
The most common symptoms are pain and tenderness in one or both heels. This pain usually occurs at the back of the heel but can also extend to the sides and bottom of the heel.
The child may limp or tiptoe to avoid putting pressure on the heel. And the heel its often very painful when the heel is squeezed on both sides. Test your child for Severs disease here.
Insoles for treating heel pain
The Danish physiotherapist, Per Øllgaard, has invented an insole for treating heel pain caused by Severs disease. During the last 10 years, he has treated more than 2500 children with the Solemaids insoles.
Best insoles for Severs disease
Per Øllgaard has experienced that the Solemaids insole is the best treatment for heel pain relief.
The result of his extensive clinical experience is that 9 out of 10 patient’s report immediate relief from heel pain when using the insole. Even more noticeable is the fact that the children could resume to their previous level of participation in sports and other physical activities.
Heel pain after walking and running – and even in the morning
Weather you have a son or a daughter, there is a fair chance that your child might be affected by Servers disease.
Heel pain is common among children between the ages of 8 to 14. Recent research indicate that heel pain is the most common cause of pain in the above-mentioned year group. In the beginning your athletic son or daughter might experience heel pain after sports. Later, the pain is likely to be present both during and after exercise – and finally your child could wake up with heel pain in the morning, having difficulties taking the first steps due to pain.
At the clinic in Viborg, Denmark, the average age of the children, that Per Øllgaard treats with the Solemaids-insoles is 11. Furthermore, Per Øllgaard have seen that approx. 50 % of the children had pain in both heels and 50 % had pain only in the left heel or in the right heel.
Shoes to reduce heel pain
According to Per Øllgaard’s experience, there is no footwear which can reduce heel pain. If the growing heel is exposed to impact (running and jumping), even when the child is using soft shoes or inserts, the growth-zone in the heel bone will be impacted and therefore irritable and painful.

If you book a consultation with one of our providers, then your child will receive a thorough examination. If it is determined that the heel pain is caused by Severs disease, then your child will be fitted with customized Solemaids insoles and – if needed – exercises to support the treatment of heel pain.
What causes pain in the heel?
Pain in the back of the heel is common among growing children and it’ usually caused by Severs disease. The condition is growth related and therefore only present during the years when a child is growing. The pain is triggered by repetitive stress to the growth plate and the result is irritation and inflation of the cartilage in the growing heel bone. This form of heel pain is not dangerous – but it is often very painful and limits children’s participation in sports and other activities.
